Egypt: Twelve hurt in large blast close to Cairo Global Airport

Twelve other people were injured after an explosion at a chemical factory close to Cairo’s airport, Egypt’s state information company MENA says.

They were hospitalised, however the severity of their injuries isn’t but known.

An army spokesman said the blast was once caused by “high temperatures” at a gas storage facility.

Air traffic on the airport has now not been affected, Egypt’s aviation minister Younis al-Masri confirmed.

According to eyewitnesses, the sound of the explosion used to be deafening and flames could be observed from a distance.

Footage shared on social media appear to display a fireball rising into the air in the Heliopolis district.

Firefighters have considering the fact that managed to subdue the flames, in step with state tv.
