The closing member of an immigrant crew who fought the Nazis for the French Resistance has died aged 101.
Arsène Tchakarian escaped a Nazi crackdown through which 22 of the staff’s opponents had been shot via the German profession forces in Paris in 1944.
He was presented France’s best possible honour.
President Emmanuel Macron tweeted that Tchakarian, an ethnic Armenian, was once “a hero of the Resistance and tireless witness whose voice resonated strongly to the very end”.
Tchakarian handiest became a French citizen in 1958. He was once granted a couple of medals for gallantry, together with the distinguished Legion of Honour in 2012.

Each Tchakarian and Manouchian have been communists, like many of the partisans who resisted the Nazi career of Europe.
The collaborationist French Vichy regime issued a “pink poster” in February 1944 after the execution of Manouchian and his comrades, supposed to persuade the public that the fighters had been just a foreign legal gang.

Tchakarian controlled to escape to Bordeaux, the place he remained active within the Resistance until France was liberated in August 1944.
‘Because we cherished France’
After the conflict Tchakarian mentioned the guerrillas were “not heroes”, however had “resisted as a result of lets do it: we didn’t have households or jobs.
“And we resisted because we liked France. It had followed us.”
In later lifestyles he campaigned to get the Ottoman Turkish massacres of Armenians throughout World Warfare One recognised across the world as genocide.

In 2014, the then French President, François Hollande, inaugurated a Missak Manouchian park within the Armenian capital Yerevan, together with his Armenian counterpart at the time, Serzh Sargsyan.
