there’s a ritual after French riots which calls for executive, protesters and the media all to insist that it used to be the work of a minority.
That method the protest motion shucks off responsibility, the government pretends the problem is not as severe because it appears, and the media steer clear of accusations of tarring everybody with the similar brush.
Anyone who witnessed what happened on Saturday knows that may be pious rubbish.
The perception that the vast majority of “gilets jaunes” (yellow vests) have been tut-tutting within the background, shaking their heads in surprised condemnation of the “violent few”, is unsustainable.
Such A Lot of the yellow vests who arrived off the Arc de Triomphe knew perfectly neatly what was once prone to happen.

and so they are looking forward to the president to enact the following step in the problematic pas-de-deux that’s French social negotiation.
What the ritual requires now’s a gesture from the government that shows that it has not just listened, but that it is ready to appease.

Or will or not it’s simply the promise of more consultations? And the risk of the gilets jaunes kicking that back in his face with every other day of violence.
It is the predicament that at last faces each and every French president. for those who do not provide in, then there is more violence for which – this being France – the protesters don’t get the blame. You do!
