Illinois lawmaker Nick Sauer quits after ‘catfishing’ declare

An Illinois state consultant has resigned following allegations he used footage of his ex-girlfriend to “catfish other males”.

Republican Nick Sauer allegedly used the pictures on a pretend Instagram account to trap males into “graphic conversations of a sexual nature”.

His former girlfriend Kate Kelly made the allegations in a proper complaint.

Catfishing refers to creating fake personas to trick others into bogus online conversations.

Mr Sauer said in a statement his duties can be affected “by way of the distraction of addressing these allegations.

Illinois space Republican chief Jim Durkin called the allegations “troubling”, pronouncing the “proper authorities” should be allowed to investigate.

Publishing personal sexual pictures with out consent is against the law in the state of Illinois.

Ms Kelly filed the criticism with the Administrative Center of the Legislative Inspector General on Wednesday, in step with experiences on US news web site Politico.
