Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has steered Nato to send ships to the ocean of Azov following a naval confrontation with Russia off Crimea.

He advised Germany’s Bild newspaper he hoped the ships could be relocated “to assist Ukraine and provide security”.

On Sunday, Russia opened hearth on 3 Ukrainian ships and seized their crews within the Kerch Strait among the Black Sea and the ocean of Azov.

On Monday, Nato leader Jens Stoltenberg called on Russia to free the Ukrainian ships and sailors and said Moscow will have to recognize the “consequences of its movements”.
